In her seven years with the Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes, Inc., Colleen Bennett’s proudest professional moment came while working with a group of fourth-year accounting students on their nonprofit projects.
She spoke to the students about why she chose to work for Girl Scouts, including the impact of doing something bigger than yourself and the value of helping future generations change the world.
At the end of the project, one of the students said she was now thinking about going into nonprofit work. “I love the idea of helping students become more aware of the diverse opportunities that await them and understand that there are choices they can make that can change lives for the better.”
Among Bennett’s influences is her mother, who “always thought of others first,” and inspired her own support of nonprofits.
“I think that today’s financial leaders need to show integrity and compassion,” Bennett says. “Although we are all responsible for the bottom line, we need to see people first and make sure that the decisions we make are good for those we serve.”
