Michelle McClelland credits her high school accounting teacher with influencing her career path. For more than 20 years, she has worked with credit unions, holding CFO roles for the past 18. The last six have been spent with Prospera.

“I have a love for the mission of ‘people helping people’ and that we are a member-owned cooperative. The industry is so welcoming, and we all work together for the betterment of financial well-being for all,” McClelland says.

She kept that mission in the foreground as she helped see Prospera and its members through the economic impact and challenges of COVID-19. “We were navigating a whole new world with no manual, and I feel we all did an amazing job to make sure we were here for our members and their new financial needs,” McClelland says.

McClelland is active on community boards and credit union trade organizations, and as a leader she encourages the next generation to “ask the questions; dig into the answers” and “don’t settle for ‘that’s the way it’s always done.’”
