Dean Basten started his career in public accounting at Schenck in 1989, first working with Miron Construction as a client. In August 1998, at age 31, he was brought on as the construction company’s first CFO, and in 2000 he became the first non-family member officer of Miron — one of his proudest moments, as it spoke to “the confidence and trust that the Voss and Kippenhan families have placed in me to represent them,” he says.
He worked through the challenge of the Great Recession, which hit right after Miron had “completed the buyout of a former owner, which depleted our balance sheet,” says Basten, who developed a new growth plan and “was able to get the commitment and support of another bonding company, and they have been our partner ever since.”
Basten, the Growth Award recipient, has seen Miron’s revenues grow from $100 million to $1.8 billion during his tenure. Basten also is a 2024 UW-Green Bay Distinguished Alumni Award recipient and was named a 2025 Wisconsin Titan 100.
Basten is highly active in local nonprofit and professional organizations, and he says he is most passionate about organizations affecting children.
“Our youth are our future leaders and future community members,” Basten says. “Any investment in them will pay dividends in the future.”
