ArtFest Green Bay attendees had the opportunity to explore many types of art and even be part of the creation of a community clay mural. The piece was designed and created by local artists Keith Carter and Don Krumpos. They led the event attendees in working with wet clay to create texture, add dimension, and apply colorful underglazes.

The community also named the mural, and they chose Spirit of the Fox. It incorporates images of the Fox River and nature found in this region. This public art piece is 3 feet tall and 30 feet long, and is installed at 238 Walnut St.

“It’s so special walking next to this work of art and taking a close look at the imprints of names and designs that the community pressed into the clay,” states Jenny VandenLangenberg, director of first impressions for Downtown Green Bay, Inc. “We are very pleased that the first annual ArtFest Green Bay was a place where everyone could be an artist. This work of many hands is a beautiful addition to public art in our downtown.”

Spirit of the Fox was made possible through a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board’s Creative Community grant program. This statewide program encourages arts education, cultural understanding, and community arts development, and provides support for projects that are done with the community rather than just for the community. ArtFest Green Bay received additional support from Capital Credit Union and the Artisan and Business Center of Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.

Downtown Green Bay, Inc. invites the media and the public to the dedication. The artists and partners will be in attendance to share a few words and celebrate the completion of this new addition to the downtown. Parking is available in the ramp or nearby on Adams Street.
