Sheridan Random Lake will permanently close its facility at 100 Industrial Ave., Random Lake.
Sheridan is a book publishing company owned by CJK Group headquartered in Brainerd, Minnesota. It has 11 other locations including the former Worzalla plant in Stevens Point.
In May, the company received $297,000 through a Wisconsin Fast Forward grant from Wisconsin’s Department of Workforce Development. The company said it would provide binder and print operator training to 13 unemployed and 27 incumbent trainees. Incumbent workers could receive an hourly wage increase of $6 or more.
The Random Lake closure has been prompted by the company’s significant downturn in business at the Random Lake location, according to a letter company officials sent to the Department of Workforce Development.
This action is expected to result in the permanent elimination of 104 employees – 8 salary and 96 hourly positions. The company expects to begin eliminating positions Nov. 21, and will continue in phases until complete closure Feb. 28. It is a non-union facility and there are no interplant bumping rights.
