MANITOWOC—The deadline to complete a survey gathering information for the Manitowoc County Childcare Study has been extended through Jan. 7.
Leede Research announced that it will extend the deadline to give families who were busy during the holiday period and opportunity to complete this survey on family needs. Four community organizations, including Progress Lakeshore, continue to gather public input on the needs for childcare in Manitowoc County and its impact on our area workforce.
To date, more than 580 people have completed the survey. The full results are targeted to be available later this month.Â
Early findings indicate that for those not currently employed, childcare issues are a factor with 56% of respondents, the top of 12 factors that were measured. Of respondents, 45% indicate that childcare issues have a significant impact on their ability to fully participate in the Manitowoc County workforce. Â
Information gathered will help identify key issues and how the future might be structured to better address needs. The goal is to expand workforce opportunities and add to the potential labor market of the area.
National data indicates that childcare can be a key factor in limiting workforce participation both in terms of numbers and schedule availability. The access, quality, trust, and cost of childcare is important if Manitowoc County wants to maximize opportunities with an aging workforce.
Leede Research has been commissioned to partner with key community organizations to complete a study of childcare and workforce needs. The goal is to better understand how the community can maximize both family and labor needs moving forward.
The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed by going to LeedeWI.com/Childcare.
