The Door County Economic Development Corporation is seeking qualified consultants or firms to conduct a countywide housing study analyzing the current housing landscape and identifying strategies to address near- and long-term housing needs throughout Door County.
With more than 30,000 year-round residents, approximately 11,000 secondary (or seasonal) residents, and a vibrant visitor economy, Door County continues to face housing challenges that directly affect workforce growth, economic sustainability and resident need.
The study will assess current housing inventory and development activity, examine factors influencing supply and demand — including employer needs, pricing levels, and short-term rentals — and project demand for workforce, affordable, seasonal workforce, senior, and market-rate housing over 5-, 10-, and 20-year timeframes. Recommendations will address the distinct needs of the City of Sturgeon Bay, areas north of the city, and areas south of the city.
“Access to housing is directly tied to Door County’s ability to grow our workforce and support long-term economic vitality,” said Michelle Lawrie, Executive Director, Door County Economic Development Corporation. “By taking a close look at where we are since our 2019 study, we can better understand what progress has been made, gaps that continue to exist, and what strategic steps are needed next.”
