This year’s Manufacturing First event features keynote speaker Bill Taylor, founding editor of Fast Company and best-selling author of “Simply Brilliant: How Great Organizations Do Ordinary Things in Extraordinary Ways.”
In his talk on Oct. 26, Taylor will draw on themes and case studies from his book to impart lessons about strategy, culture, service and creativity. His lessons and insights are based on access to organizations ranging from retail banks to fast-food joints to heartland manufacturers.
The first day of the Oct. 25 to 26 event includes program sessions with tracks on talent, safety, technology, social media, leadership training and growth strategy development. Both days include ample time for networking and learning.

Manufacturing and technology show set for October
The Wisconsin Manufacturing & Technology Show will be held Oct. 3 to 5 at the Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis.
The event includes 100,000 square feet of exhibit space full of displays, demonstrations, seminars, products and services. M-WERC to hold energy efficiency conference
The Midwest Energy Research Consortium will hold a conference for companies wanting to develop actionable and money-saving strategies. Slated for Sept. 21 at the M-WERC Innovation Center, “The Business Case for Industrial Energy Efficiency” conference is designed to be a highly efficient, one-stop application conference for small to medium-sized manufacturers.
The event is geared toward owners, executives and key decision makers of small to mid-size manufacturers, utility account managers, industrial energy efficiency consultants and utility trade allies. Wisconsin manufacturers wthat have made investments in energy efficiency will present case studies.
Buckley Brinkman, executive director and CEO of the Wisconsin Center for Manufacturing and Productivity, will deliver the keynote, “Trending Toward the Future, Critical Issues Facing Manufacturing.”

Business and industry luncheon features House Speaker Paul Ryan
This year’s State of Wisconsin Business & Industry Luncheon will feature special guest House Speaker Paul Ryan.
Set for Oct. 16 at Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center in Madison, the event touches on the economies of Wisconsin and what the future will hold. National experts share their prognostications, while state business leaders share their perspective from a business point of view. Gov. Scott Walker and Kurt Bauer, president and CEO of Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, are scheduled to speak.
The event also includes the presentation of the Wisconsin Business Achievement Award and the unveiling of the winner of the Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin contest.
