Evers’ budget prioritizes tax relief, education, workforce development, more

Gov. Tony Evers on Tuesday delivered his 2025–27 Biennial Budget Message.

In his address, Evers said the budget includes a “comprehensive plan to lower costs from child care to medication to help working families, seniors, and students.” Among other things, it will:

  • Provide almost $2 billion in tax relief, including the elimination of income tax on tips;

  • Invest in public education at all levels;

  • Incentivize local governments to freeze property taxes at their current levels;

  • Combat price gouging on prescriptions and insurance companies’ denial of Wisconsinites medical bill claims;

  • Invest in measures to fight PFAS and other contaminants;

  • Work to fix roads and infrastructure;

  • Create more affordable housing;

  • Expand access to high-speed internet;

  • Create a new agricultural economist position in state government;

  • Reauthorize the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program;

  • Invest in green jobs, the health care workforce, and worker training for artificial intelligence;

  • Support technical colleges; and

  • Provide the largest two-year increase in the UW system in state history.
