Aimee Herrick, Director of Events & Emerging Talent for the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce
What has been the most rewarding part of your professional journey so far?
I took a chance on myself, and it paid off. Teaching has always been my passion, and for the nine years I did it, I found it incredibly fulfilling. But I knew it was time for a change. Stepping out of my comfort zone helped me realize just how much I’m capable of. I’m so grateful that in my new role, I can still stay connected with schools and give back by celebrating our amazing teachers.
What do you wish more people understood about your field or industry?
I wish more people understood how crucial it is to connect emerging talent with local opportunities, especially in schools. Through my work with the Chamber, I’ve learned a lot about our community, and it’s solidified how educators play a key role in shaping our future workforce. By building strong connections between schools, teachers, and local businesses, we create opportunities for everyone to thrive. It’s not just about filling jobs; it’s about building relationships where both the individuals and the community can grow together.
Can you share one of the most significant challenges you’ve faced in your career and how you overcame it?
When I decided to leave teaching, I went through a period of self-doubt. I loved teaching and was good at it, so when I found myself floundering in the corporate and non-profit world, it was tough! Through the Chamber, I was able to rekindle my relationship with schools and even started facilitating a course, and then I felt back in my comfort zone. I also began volunteering and networking in the community, and the more I got involved, the more I found fulfillment.
What legacy do you hope to leave, both in your career and in your community?
This one is simple: that I cared. I care deeply about our teachers and schools, and I want to see them succeed and thrive. I’m passionate about supporting local businesses and helping them grow. Above all, I want our community members to feel happy, connected, and proud of where they live.
How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
I’m usually curled up with a good book and my dogs, but sign me up for a good game night with family and friends anytime! I love attending community events and festivals, volunteering where I can, and discovering new restaurants. If I’m feeling adventurous, you’ll catch me traveling with friends or at a state park. Otherwise, you’ll find me doing a crossword and getting my reality TV fix.
