Cal Kanowitz: Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Marion Body Works, Inc.
Looking back, what personal experiences or milestones have had the greatest influence on your professional success?
Over nine years ago I was faced with starting over in my career and pursuing a totally new industry. I had worked so hard and couldn’t imagine how this would shape my life. It turned out to be the biggest blessing in my career. I joined a great company and kept the mindset to do the best I could in whatever role I was in. This was such a pivotal time in my life and looking back was the best opportunity for me.
What has been the most rewarding part of your professional journey so far?
Seeing and experiencing the growth of Marion Body Works over the last three years has been the most rewarding so far. The company has more than doubled in size, and that has brought on so many unique opportunities and challenges that have shaped my journey. I get the privilege to contribute to meaningful projects and see the tangible impact of my work.
What do you wish more people understood about your field or industry?
Wisconsin manufacturing is something we can be proud of. So many cool things that we see all over the world are made right here in our community. What we do at Marion Body Works, and what our employees build, is no exception.
What is one cause or issue that you’re especially passionate about, and why?
I am very passionate about the homeless community. I served on the board of Homeless Connections for a period of time. That opportunity allowed me to understand the Fox Valley at a deeper level and provided me an avenue to use my passion to help others.
What advice would you give to others looking to make a difference in their communities?
Every community is looking for young leaders to volunteer within their organizations and non-profits. The more you make time for this, the more you understand the needs around you. Always look for ways to use your gifts and influence to help others. The relationships that you will gain from doing this will open doors to other opportunities. Being involved in your local community will also help you understand the challenges that are facing some of your employees.
