Jacqueline Runge, Clubhouse Manager for South Hills Golf & Country Club

Looking back, what personal experiences or milestones have had the greatest influence on your professional success?

In 2011, I suffered a stroke caused by a hole in my heart. While in the hospital, I overheard the doctors tell my family I likely wouldn’t be able to continue my education. That moment filled me with anger, but quickly transformed into determination. At the time, I was working toward an associate degree, but I made a commitment to earn my master’s degree. Recovery was a long and difficult road, and I still deal with residual effects from the stroke today. But in 2023, I achieved my goal, earning my MBA from UW-Oshkosh. I now use my experience to encourage others, reminding them that even in their darkest moments, there is light ahead.

What has been the most rewarding part of your professional journey so far?

Stepping into more mentoring roles has been incredibly rewarding. Seeing staff apply the tools we’ve worked on together makes every moment spent coaching worthwhile.

Can you share one of the most significant challenges you’ve faced in your career and how you overcame it?

The year following COVID was the most challenging period of my career. The hospitality industry changed dramatically, and we faced a perfect storm of limited resources, a depleted workforce, supply chain shortages, and forecasts predicting a surge in traffic. Fortunately, our accurate forecasting allowed us to build a plan centered around clear and consistent communication with members, guests, and staff.

What advice would you give to others looking to make a difference in their communities?

Getting involved is easy, but your impact will be far greater when you’re passionate about the initiatives you support. Start by listing the priorities that matter most to you, then seek out ways to engage with your community that align with those values.

What legacy do you hope to leave, both in your career and in your community?

I aspire to continue to build a personal brand defined by meaningful contributions to Fond du Lac’s growth and betterment. I want to be known for connecting like-minded individuals who drive innovation and create lasting change both at South Hills and in Fond du Lac—even when I’m no longer directly involved.
