Kim Chonos, Owner of Events Everlasting & Der Wolf Garten
What has been the most rewarding part of your professional journey so far?
My favorite part has been teaching younger people. I love having interns and hiring young people so we can collaborate and teach each other in the always-changing world. Many of my past interns have grown into amazing careers, and I am incredibly proud to be able to continue watching them grow!
What is one cause or issue that you’re especially passionate about, and why?
I am extremely passionate about housing and helping individuals get out of the systemic poverty cycle. As a young adult I found myself in a situation where I was close to being homeless and utilizing many of the social programs that are available. I am president of the New London Housing Authority to help better understand HUD and other housing options so I can continue to help provide resources to those in need. I hope one day to help people create action plans to get out of the cycle.
What advice would you give to others looking to make a difference in their communities?
Making a difference could mean opening a business your community needs—it could be cleaning up sidewalks, or it could be having a conversation with a stranger. Making a difference is really taking advantage of the opportunities you get every day.
What legacy do you hope to leave, both in your career and in your community?
I have always hoped for an opportunity to create a foundation and raise/donate money to give annual grants to local entrepreneurs to help build or grow their business.
How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
When I am not working you can typically find me traveling to new places. I enjoy gardening within my tulip and herb beds along with our veggie garden at home.
