Cheese processing and packaging equipment maker HART Design & Manufacturing is always looking for the right people to become a part of its team-based environment.

“At HART, culture is our greatest focus,” says Heather Marconi, director of human resources. “One of our favorite ways to demonstrate our team appreciation is with monthly lunches and events like our annual corn roast and cornhole tournament, Halloween costume contest or something simple like ‘Root Beer Float Day.’ We LOVE to have fun!”

Each year, employees receive gift cards for their birthdays and their annual dates of hire. “Larger milestones like 25 and 30 years are celebrated with substantial gifts like gold coins,” Marconi says. “We also celebrate retirements with a company-wide luncheon.”

Additionally HART hosts drives for food, clothing and toys, and matches employees’ charitable donations.

HART supports work-life balance with flexibility to attend children’s school events or take family to doctor’s appointments, and family members are invited to workplace celebrations.

Among its benefits, HART matches 50% of up to 7% of retirement contributions. Employees working 30 hours or more are eligible for health care benefits, which includes a 100% company-funded short-term disability program.

Managers are trained to keep an eye out for signs of mental stress among team members. “This year managers were invited to attend a day-long seminar by NEWMA on mental health in the workplace,” Marconi says. “We had representatives from each department attend.”

HART plans to take the results of its employee engagement survey to examine what areas it may focus on next. “Our plan is to evaluate the results and take immediate action on any area we are in need of development in,” Marconi says.
