Housing grants awarded to 10 in Northeast Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority announced that 59 organizations, including 10 in Northeast Wisconsin, will receive $2 million in grants from the WHEDA Foundation to improve emergency shelters, transitional residences, and extremely low-income housing.

Administered by WHEDA, the WHEDA Foundation grants improve housing for community members with complex needs, including individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, people experiencing intimate partner violence, individuals with incomes at or below 30 percent of the area median income, youth experiencing homelessness, and people with mental and behavioral health conditions.

This year, the funds will create or improve 1,515 beds and housing units across the state. Providers in 27 counties received awards ranging from $7,492 to the maximum award of $50,000. Northeast Wisconsin recipients are:

  • Ecumenical Partnership for Housing $ 32,991 Green Bay Brown 16 Replace a boiler in two transitional housing units and add/replace air conditioning in five units
  • New Community Shelter, Inc. $ 50,000 Green Bay Brown 118 Replace outdated HVAC with energy-efficient units and remove and replace 20-year-old carpet
  • Solutions Recovery, Inc. $ 50,000 Oshkosh Winnebago 77 Rehabilitation of multiple sober living homes including roof replacements, lead abatement, and bathroom addition
  • ADVOCAP, Inc. $ 27,794 Fond du Lac Winnebago 1 Remodel to add 4th bedroom, replace siding, windows, doors, flooring, and tree removal to repair drainage issues
  • Ecumenical Partnership for Housing $ 32,818 Green Bay Brown 16 Replace furnace and air conditioning unit in a house, and add or replace air conditioning for five additional units.
  • Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity $ 50,000 Menasha Outagamie 15 15 critical home repairs for low-income elderly, disabled, and veteran homeowners
  • Greater Oshkosh Healthy Neighborhoods, Inc. $ 50,000 Oshkosh Winnebago 2 Construction of a duplex for long-term, affordable rental housing for up to 8 individuals
  • House of Hope Green Bay, Inc. $ 12,000 Green Bay Brown 15 Replacement of sewer pipes to prevent sewage back up, removal of 8 garage units, and repaving lot
  • Housing Authority of the County of Outagamie $ 25,000 Appleton Outagamie 25 Excavation, fine grade, compact base and asphalted 14,395 sq. ft. of parking lot 
  • Pillars, Inc $ 30,000 Appleton Outagamie 132 Replace 23 aging water heaters

WHEDA received 117 applications requesting more than $4.4 million through the housing grant process, indicating the need in Wisconsin.
