Johnsonville announced Sept. 27 it no longer plans to close its Meadowside facility in Sheboygan Falls.
The company had announced in January the Meadowside facility would close after its acquisition of Salm Partners in Demark, Wisconsin. As part of the acquisition, Johnsonville acquired two production plants in Denmark. Salm Partners is the largest manufacturer of fully-cooked sausage and hot dogs in the United States. The Meadowside closure would have affected 390 workers.
A company spokeswoman announced Friday that after re-evaluating current and future growth plans for Johnsonville’s and Salm Partners’ businesses, the Meadowside facility will remain open.
Since the Salm Partners acquisition earlier this year, the company spokeswoman said Johnsonville added 140 new jobs in Wisconsin in 2024 across its locations in Sheboygan Falls, Denmark, and Watertown.
Salm Partners previously was owned by Chicago-based Entrepreneurial Equity Partners which purchased a stake in the business in 2020. Salm Partners was founded in 2004 by four brothers and expanded to a second plant in 2019. It has benefited from tax credits provided by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.
