Construction of a new hotel on the former Shopko site in De Pere begins in August.

A De Pere Chamber of Commerce will hold a groundbreaking for the TownePlace Suites by Marriott, 215 W. Wisconsin St., at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 13.

The new five-story, 90-room hotel will be operated under Marriott’s TownePlace Suites brand by Kinseth Hospitality Companies. Kinseth, based in Iowa, operates around 100 hotels located mostly in the Midwest including 25 in Wisconsin. It has hotels in Oshkosh and Sheboygan.

“We’re thrilled to break ground on the new TownePlace Suites by Marriott in De Pere. This project represents our continued commitment to growing in dynamic communities like De Pere and delivering extended-stay accommodations that offer both comfort and convenience to today’s travelers. We look forward to becoming a part of the De Pere business community and welcoming guests for years to come,” said Les Kinseth.

“The redevelopment of the former Shopko marks a turning point for downtown De Pere—bringing fresh energy, modern amenities, and long-term economic growth. The entire redevelopment adds to business opportunities while the hotel adds to the city’s and region’s tourism opportunities,” said De Pere Mayor James Boyd.
