Retail chain Kohl’s has been in a sales slump for some time, and Kohl’s released a statement on Monday that it hired Michael Bender as its new CEO to help improve its fortunes.
Bender held the role on an interim basis for the previous seven months and worked in retail for 30 years at places like Walmart and PepsiCo.
“I’m honored to take on the role of CEO at Kohl’s,” Bender said in a statement. “Working with the teams over the last six months has deepened my love of this company and my conviction in what’s possible for our future.”
Previous CEO Ashley Buchanan was fired in May after an internal investigation found him to have directed Kohl’s business to a vendor founded by someone he had a personal relationship with.
Kohl’s said Bender has improved the sales and strategies of the retailer.
The retailer will announce its quarter three earnings results on Tuesday.
