Kwik Trip officials said that a widely-reported disruption to its internal network and communication systems was the result of a “cybersecurity incident,” but that no customer information had been compromised.
Customers began reporting Oct. 9 that the Kwik Trip Rewards program was offline and the company confirmed the system had been disrupted.
John McHugh, vice president of external relations for the Wisconsin-based convenience store chain, said in a statement the investigation into the disruption is still in its early stages.
“The incident was detected within hours and mitigation efforts began immediately with the assistance of external cybersecurity experts,” he said, adding at this point, no signs point to guests’ payment information being compromised.
McHugh said most internal systems are functioning as of Oct. 19, but several services will remain offline for now.
“At this time, the Kwik Rewards app and website will remain offline; however, members will receive an update as soon as these are restored,” McHugh said. “That communication will include plans to restore any missed rewards as a result of the outage.”
