I like to think there is a little magic sprinkled in every issue of Insight, but this month’s issue has magic spilling from its seams.
In our cover story on the Paine Art Center and Gardens, written so beautifully by Associate Editor Kate Bruns, readers will get a behind-the-scenes look at the making of one of our region’s most beloved holiday traditions — “Nutcracker in the Castle,” a retelling of the classic fairy tale with elaborate scenes in each room of the Paine mansion in Oshkosh.
Last year’s “Nutcracker in the Castle” presentation attracted a record number of visitors, which aligns with the nonprofit’s 20-year trajectory of growth in everything from its annual budget and operating income to its overall audience engagement.
Executive Director Aaron Sherer points out that in 2003, paid admissions brought in $25,000 with fewer than 10,000 visitors. In 2022, however, paid admissions exceeded $1 million — growth of more than 4,000% — representing more than 100,000 visitors. Turn to page 22 to learn about what it takes for the Paine to achieve its year-round goal of being a premier cultural destination in Wisconsin.
From our construction industry report (page 31) to our small business feature (page 34), this issue of Insight offers stories of local businesses reimagining, refocusing and rising above challenges. For example, in this month’s Personalities feature on page 12, Nikki Peroutka talks about finding the right workplace chemistry among colleagues, which can often feel like a magic all its own. As the new president of Element, Peroutka is redefining what success looks like for the De Pere marketing agency at all stages of its evolution.
Speaking of evolution, our team at Insight is excited to welcome two new members — General Manager Angela O’Kray and Events Manager Amanda Beuscher. Both Angela and Amanda bring so much passion and energy to their roles; I hope you get the chance to meet them at an upcoming event such as Best Places to Work in Manufacturing Nov. 13 or CFO of the Year Awards Dec. 3 to see for yourself.
Additionally, you can find their contact information on page 4 of this issue. Drop them a line with your thoughts and ideas. They are eager to hear from the community that makes Insight what it is.
Wishing you a magic-filled month ahead.
