After four years at the helm of Marian University, Dr. Michelle Majewski announced she will retire when a replacement is hired.
“I have been at Marian University for 37 years in roles from faculty to president and I have relished my time here, supporting students, faculty and staff,” said Majewski. “But my husband retired several years ago and I am looking forward to joining him as we begin the next chapter in our lives.”
Majewski, who has a Psy.D. in clinical psychology, has been a full-time faculty member, chairperson, dean, and professor emerita. She had retired in 2018, but returned as acting president in April of 2020. She was appointed Marian’s 17th president by Marian’s Board of Trustees in November 2020.
During her tenure as president Majewski is credited with:
- Raising $12.1 million in 2021 to retire all of Marian’s debt
- Securing an anonymous gift of $1 million earlier this month for the university
- Right-sizing Marian University in 2023 to increase its financial stability
- Overseeing the recent renovation of the new nursing space in the Stayer Center on the Marian campus
- Launching new, high-market-demand programs such as construction management and risk management and Insurance
- Relaunching a graduate program in organizational leadership.
DMajewski is the former dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Marian University and the founding editor of the peer-reviewed Journal of Homeland Security Education. She is a past recipient of the James R. Underkofler Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award.
“We express our deepest thanks for the many years of leadership and service provided by Dr. Majewski over the past 37 years,” said David Klumpyan, chairman of the board of trustees at Marian University.
A succession task force represented by members of the board of trustees (current and past), faculty and staff will begin the process to identify her successor. Majewski will continue with the university in a transition role to her successor.
