The U.S. Navy announced Feb. 18 that Fincantieri Marinette Marine and Bollinger Shipyards will construct four Marine Corps’ Landing Ship Medium.
“Bollinger Shipyards was awarded a contract to support LSM long lead time procurement and lead ship engineering design activities in September 2025; Fincantieri will execute LSM work to build four ships,” according to a press release.
“The VCM will then have the ability to decide the best strategy for awarding the remaining three ships authorized under the base contract.”
The request for proposals, comes after the Navy cancelled an order for four Constellation-class frigates from Fincantieri Marinette Marine while allowing the company to continue building the first two ships in the class that are already under construction.
