The Lawson Canal in Menasha may be filled in for additional riverfront development. A concept plan for the former sites of the Banta and Gilbert Paper mills includes construction of townhouses, apartments, a hotel, restaurants, and a new park.

Previous concepts for the Lawson Canal included using it as a kayak and canoe run, with apartments along the south shore.
