Microsoft’s massive artificial intelligence data center campus in Mount Pleasant is beginning to come online, according to Milwaukee BizTimes.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in a recent post on X that the company’s Fairwater data center in Mount Pleasant is “going live, ahead of schedule,” describing it as “the world’s most powerful AI datacenter” that will eventually connect hundreds of thousands of advanced graphics processing units into a single system.

In recent weeks, Microsoft has begun to bring equipment online in Mount Pleasant and conduct startup activities there, including limited operations. Construction work is still ongoing on the first phase of the campus.

The initial phase of the data center is expected to employ about 500 full-time workers, with a second phase currently under construction expected to bring total employment to around 800. Microsoft has hired roughly 375 employees for the Mount Pleasant data center so far.
