The Oshkosh City Council approved moving forward with the potential purchase of City Center, according to Wisconsin Public Radio.
The Council voted 5-2 to approve a resolution authorizing city staff to prepare an offer on two properties, 101 Commerce St. and 201 Pearl Ave., that make up City Center. The total purchase price cannot exceed $12.5 million and a formal purchase would be contingent on additional approvals from both the Oshkosh Plan Commission and City Council.
The former Park Plaza Mall, now known as City Center, was built in 1967 along the Fox River in the heart of the city’s downtown.
The Greater Oshkosh Economic Development Corporation urged the city to purchase the site calling it a “generational opportunity.”
