Local news about the companies, people and issues that impact business in Northeast Wisconsin and beyond.

Annika Galloway of Galloway Company, whose great-great grandfather started the family dairy business, joins co-hosts Ann Franz of the Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturing Alliance and Kate Bruns of Insight on this week’s episode of the NEW Manufacturing Insights podcast, produced by Woodward Community Media.

Galloway Company has been manufacturing dairy ingredients in Neenah for more than six decades and is the nation’s largest producer of bulk sweetened condensed milk. For Annika, today the company’s director of communications and PR, making sweetened condensed milk for some of America’s most beloved brands is a point of pride.

But Galloway is a B2B manufacturer; you won’t find its brand on the shelf, even though the average consumer may first think of sweetened condensed milk sitting on supermarket shelves in a can.

“We don’t put it in a can,” she tells the co-hosts on Episode 101. “We’re sending it in tanker-truck-sized loads to the nation’s biggest candy manufacturers, pie manufacturers … really delicious caramels and pies and all that.”

And while 90% of Wisconsin milk is turned into cheese, Galloway Company does none of that, Annika explains. She dispels this and other misconceptions about the business on this week’s episode, in addition to talking about the ups and downs of family business life, sharing her best leadership insight, and promoting Galloway Company’s upcoming sponsorship of Future Neenah, Inc.’s “A Very Neenah Christmas Market,” at which Galloway will be offering mugs of a bona fide family tradition: eggnog.

Annika also talks about Galloway Company’s recent growth — and not just the capital expansion that recently doubled its capacity for bulk sweetened condensed milk, but also its hiring growth and the upward trajectory of its beverage division, bolstered by the company’s recent groundbreaking development of an acidified crème liqueur base.
