Local news about the companies, people and issues that impact business in Northeast Wisconsin and beyond.

On this week’s episode of the NEW Manufacturing Insights podcast, sponsored by Werner Electric Supply, Todd Louthain of Green Bay-based Coex 3D joins co-hosts Ann Franz of the NEW Manufacturing Alliance and Kate Bruns of Insight on Manufacturing to dive deeper into the January 2025 IOM cover story “Addition by Addition,” which explores how manufacturers in Northeast Wisconsin are using additive manufacturing to improve business and leveraging 3D printing resources like Coex 3D that are located in our region.

On the show, Louthain describes Coex 3D’s unique position as one of only 14 domestic filament manufacturers selling to the open market and offers examples of how his company has helped manufacturers of all types on their additive manufacturing journeys.

He tells the co-hosts that the lack of government regulation of 3D filament is one of the hurdles to widespread adoption, and his company’s “made in America” status, along with its product guarantee, is a “refreshing change of pace” for customers who are often blindly purchasing Chinese-made products online.

“We can have 100% confidence in the materials we’re making and therefore we can stand behind it and do stand behind it,” says Louthain, who spun off Coex 3D from Pulaski-based The Village Companies in 2022. Today Coex 3D not only converts virgin resin into a wide variety of filaments, but also does in-house 3D printing projects and advises businesses.
