Local news about the companies, people and issues that impact business in Northeast Wisconsin and beyond.

On this week’s episode of the NEW Manufacturing Insights podcast, sponsored by Stoke RGA, Insight Associate Editor Kate Bruns and Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturing Alliance (NEWMA) Executive Director Ann Franz check in with Patti Habeck, who in December became the president and CEO of the 18-county economic development organization New North, Inc.

Habeck joined New North, Inc. late last year after 14 years with the nonprofit organization Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.

On this week’s episode, Habeck talks about what she has learned along her leadership journey and during her nonprofit career and what she sees as the strengths and challenges of the organization she’s leading, which she says finds its strength in a “small but mighty” staff and in fostering regional connections.

“We want to understand [issues] as a region,” she tells the co-hosts on episode 117. “So how can we help connect the dots between the things that are happening and how do we prepare for, as much as we can, the unknowns that the future is going to bring? And how do we make sure our region is ready for that so we stay not only thriving but also competitive when you look nationally?”

She tells the co-hosts that collaborations are key, including those New North has with NEWMA and Insight, going forward and that technology and AI are major focus areas for the organization. She also provides a preview of the upcoming New North Summit, which will be held June 9 at Lambeau Field.
