Local news about the companies, people and issues that impact business in Northeast Wisconsin and beyond.

Third-generation CEO Tanya Nueske of Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Meats in Wittenberg joins co-hosts Ann Franz of the Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturing Alliance and Kate Bruns of Insight on Manufacturing magazine on this week’s episode of the NEW Manufacturing Insights podcast, sponsored throughout the month of July by The Boldt Company.

On this week’s show, Nueske shares her company’s 91-year history in Northeast Wisconsin, including her personal story of growing up in the family home connected to a meat plant that officially qualifies her as “smoked since birth.”

Nueske says her family’s old-fashioned, slow smoking process using real wood has set Nueske’s apart from the crowd and led it to receive numerous awards, national media recognition, and callouts on restaurant menus nationwide, in addition to the company’s famous bacon recently achieving finalist status in WMC’s “Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin” competition.

She told Franz and Bruns she appreciates when friends and associates bring her examples of nationwide restaurant menus; because the product is sold through a distributor, she doesn’t even know all the restaurants that are proudly using Nueske’s meats.

“I still find it amazing to find our name on menus all over, and I wish my grandpa could see it,” Nueske told the co-hosts. “When a chef puts you on the menu, it’s the ultimate compliment.”
