Local news about the companies, people and issues that impact business in Northeast Wisconsin and beyond.

On this week’s episode of the NEW Manufacturing Insights podcast, sponsored by Werner Electric Supply, Michelle Waldinger and Brock Rubens of Sturgeon Bay-based Marine Travelift join co-hosts Ann Franz of the NEW Manufacturing Alliance and Kate Bruns of Insight on Manufacturing to talk about the company’s extensive history supporting the maritime industry by creating massive boat hoists, the science and evolution of lifting watercraft, and the challenges of hiring on the Door peninsula, among other topics.

Marine Travelift made headlines this fall when it was awarded a contract to build the U.S. Coast Guard’s largest-ever boat lift, though the project is far from the largest Marine Travelift has done. The company constructs 70 to 90 lifts per year, up to 1,000 metric tons in size, and currently has customers on six continents — with an eye on Antarctica.

Marine Travelift is profiled in Insight on Business’ January “Home Made” feature. Read “A heavy lift” online.

NEW Manufacturing Insights is produced by B.J. DeGroot of Woodward Community Media; new episodes are released on Thursdays on the Insight website, on Spreaker, or anywhere you listen to podcasts.
