Local news about the companies, people and issues that impact business in Northeast Wisconsin and beyond.

Nicole Malson, the third-generation president of Appleton-based metal fabricator STRYKER, joins Kate Bruns of Insight on Manufacturing and Ann Franz of the NEW Manufacturing Alliance on this week’s episode of the NEW Manufacturing Insights podcast to talk more about what it has meant to take over the company from her grandfather, and then her mother; on the imposter syndrome women like she can face in the manufacturing leadership chair; and why she is passionate about the Women in Manufacturing Association, the subject of the latest Insight on Manufacturing cover story that recently launched a Northern Wisconsin chapter, as well as her board membership with the NEW Manufacturing Alliance.

This week’s episode is sponsored by Werner Electric Supply.

Malson says it can be intimidating to show up as a young woman in male-dominated manufacturing spaces, but she has grown to recognize the importance of doing so.

“Being at the table is an honor; you have to show up to the table,” she tells the co-hosts on this week’s show. “I think seeing a young woman like me at the table to other people can mean, ‘Hey, you do belong here.’ Any time I am scared to show up at the table, I have to remind myself that I do deserve it and I have worked to get here and I have to show up for all the other young women who doubt themselves.”
