The 25th episode of NEW Manufacturing Insights, the official podcast of the Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturing Alliance (NEWMA) and Insight on Manufacturing (IOM) magazine sponsored by Wintrust Commercial Banking at Town Bank, N.A., features insights from Dr. Bryan Schwebke, founder and CEO of Suamico-based Paramount Performance Physical Therapy.
Schwebke has an athletic training background but has made a big push in the last 18 months to extend and tailor his services to the needs of Northeast Wisconsin’s manufacturing community. Today, Schwebke says, he is excited to help train what he calls “industrial athletes.”
Schwebke told Bruns and Franz that musculoskeletal sprains and strains are the most common injuries in the manufacturing environment, though the injuries vary from job to job. The key, he says, is to focus on holistic health and prevention strategies as opposed to treating individual incidents in vacuums.
“Typically the perception is that these injuries are one-time things. But in reality, what’s really happening is that this is years of stuff that’s been building up and there was just one incident that was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” he says. “And that’s the approach we try to take with me having that athletic background — treating all the people we work with as industrial athletes and getting them to buy into the idea of you need to take care of your body, we need to catch these things early on. We can’t be reactive to what’s happening because that’s not good for you as an individual, and it’s not good for us as a business.”
