Employment law expert Steve DiTullio of DeWitt LLP Law Firm joins co-hosts Ann Franz of the Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturing Alliance and Kate Bruns of Insight on Manufacturing magazine on this week’s episode of the NEW Manufacturing Insights podcast, sponsored by The Boldt Company.
“I’m an employment law geek, and I always love working with manufacturers,” says the Madison-based attorney.

DiTullio was featured in the July IOM Back Office feature “At risk,” which outlined the April 2024 decision by the FTC to ban non-compete clauses for most American jobs. As the article went to press, a federal judge in Texas blocked the rule, but DiTullio tells NEW Manufacturing Insights listeners that the story is far from over, and companies should be consulting with their attorneys on the issue now, ahead of an important inflection point at the end of this month.
“For right now, September 4 is [still] the magic date,” DiTullio says.
DiTullio goes on to unpack other major employment law issues affecting manufacturers. DiTullio has been an employment defense attorney with DeWitt LLP since 1994. He says 2024 has been a particularly “busy year.”
“There’s been a lot of either changes or threatened changes, pending changes, and the FTC’s ban on noncompete is certainly one of them, but there’s been a change in a very important OSHA rule that manufacturers should be aware of and also some things happening [with] independent contractors and salary exemptions for wage and hours,” DiTullio says.
