The Port of Green Bay 2025 shipping season officially kicked off with the arrival of the Innovation with Tug Samuel De Champlain on March 12 at 1:49 p.m.

The 460-foot ship carried a shipment of cement.

“This year’s shipping season is now underway just two days later than last year’s start,” said Dean Haen, director of the Port of Green Bay. “This makes for an early start and has us looking forward to what our new season will bring.”

The winner of this year’s First Ship Contest is Anne LaCour of Pembin. LaCour predicted that the first ship would arrive at 2:13 p.m. on March 12. LaCour will receive a one-night stay at the historic Hotel Northland, a Port of Green Bay swag bag, a 200th Anniversary Brown County Monopoly Game, six admission tickets to the National Railroad Museum and a gift certificate from Voyageurs Sourdough Bakehouse.

“Congratulations to Anne, and thank you to everyone who submitted an entry. We’d also like to express our appreciation for all those who are engaged in ship watching at the Port of Green Bay. You make our work fun,” said Haen.

For those interested in ship watching, the Fox River Trail and Green Bay Metro Boat launch, along with other areas down the Lower Fox River, often offer a great view of incoming vessels. Port security requirements do not allow public access to any port property. Learn more about ship arrivals at portofgreenbay.com/ship-arrivals and on the Port of Green Bay Facebook page.
