Prospera Credit Union reported that three of its automatic teller machines were compromised by skimming devices between Oct. 17-24.
Police apprehended suspects at the Menasha location on the evening of Oct. 24. Prospera officials said they could not provide the specific location of compromised ATMs while the investigation continues, but all ATMs have been inspected to ensure they are safe for use. Prospera has branch locations at Appleton, Darboy, Grand Chute, Neenah, Menasha and Oshkosh.
“We have identified those individuals who have been affected and are contacting them to take the appropriate steps to ensure that these members are aware, help them protect their accounts and address any unrecognized transactions. At this time, only a small number of accounts appear to have unauthorized transactions,” said James Guard, risk manager at Prospera Credit Union. “It is important to note that no personal data, beyond card numbers and pins, was accessed by these devices. No security breach took place and the criminals were not able to break into Prospera’s computer systems. This incident was focused on ATMs and a limited amount of debit cards and we are ensuring Prospera’s member data continues to be safe and secure.”
“We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and assure our community of our commitment to maintaining the highest level of security measures,” Guard said.
If anyone has questions or concerns about their accounts, they are asked to contact Prospera Credit Union directly at (920) 882-4800.
