The owners of Rowleys Bay Resort in Sister Bay will not rebuild after a fire destroyed a large portion of the property Sept. 5
Jewel Peterson Ouradnik and her husband Bob posted on Facebook: “God has been at work in our hearts since the fire at Rowleys Bay Resort on September 5, 2023. The message is becoming more and more clear to us – it is time for someone else to carry on and build their own dreams. We will not be rebuilding. We have met with our commercial real estate agent and have already started conversations with prospective buyers. At nearly 62 and 70 years of age, we now see the opportunity to retire and enjoy each other and our family.”
The resort has been in the Peterson family since 1970, first as Wagon Wheel Resort and then after a rebranding in 2010 as Rowleys Bay Resort, to embrace our history and heritage,” the Facebook post continues.
The cause of the fire, which broke out in the basement, remains under investigation.
The business has issued refunds and is selling its remaining branded merchandise online.
The property includes 100 acres with 700 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline with 73 rentable units including five cottages. It was listed for sale on an auction site in 2016 for $3.75 million but was not sold.
