Air Wisconsin and Saputo Cheese both announced layoffs in letters to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
Saputo Cheese USA said a previously announced plant closure will take place in December resulting in the loss of 240 jobs. The company said in the latest announcement, that the plant closure is now set for December.
Air Wisconsin Airlines LLC has signed a non-binding letter of intent with Premier Shuttle Holdings, an affiliated holding company of the Slate Aviation group of companies, for the proposed sale of Air Wisconsin’s airline operation and certain assets.
According to the letter, Premier will need flexibility to shape its workforce so Air Wisconsin has notified its 252 employees in Milwaukee and Appleton that their positions could be impacted.
Tne notice states that Premier is pursuing this transaction because of the quality of Air Wisconsin’s fleet, the strength and expertise of its maintenance operation, and its operating certificate, which would allow Premier to expand into larger aircraft such as the CRJ-700 and E175. Premier currently offers all-business-class service on premium leisure routes in the eastern United States, including between New York and South Florida. Together with Slate Aviation, Premier would own and operate more than sixty CRJ-200 aircraft if the contemplated transaction is completed.
Other assets that are not included with the transaction will remain with Air Wisconsin’s parent company, which will continue to pursue opportunities in aircraft, engine, and parts sales and leasing. This business will employee certain Air Wisconsin employees to support its operation.
