Community members joined students, their families, and representatives from the Shawano School District and Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc. Aug. 17 to dedicate the new high school athletic complex.
The ceremony, featuring remarks from Superintendent Kurt Krizan and School Board President Christine McKinnies, took place just less than a year since the groundbreaking ceremony last August.
The event celebrated the official opening of the $5.5 million, 2,000-person capacity athletic complex that spans eight acres and features a new synthetic turf playing field, running track, and a new concessions plaza.
The athletic complex was part of the Shawano School District Referendum that was approved by the community in November 2024. The District partnered with Hoffman Planning, Design & Construction, Inc. on referendum projects at all four District schools, including Shawano Community High School.
“We are thrilled with the completion of our new athletic complex,” said Krizan. “It will provide opportunities that extend far beyond game days, creating a space for physical education, extracurricular activities, youth programs, and community events. We could not have accomplished this much in this timeframe without the help of Hoffman Planning, Design and Construction, who really acted as our advocate and ally throughout the process.”
Open houses and ribbon cutting ceremonies for the auditorium and renovation work at Shawano Community High School will be held in September and October, with all facilities open to students, faculty, and staff for the start of the 2026-27 school year.
