Joe Terrien grew up repairing cars with his dad and followed in his footsteps by opening his own collision repair shop in Green Bay.

“I liked that … but I wanted something more,” Terrien says.

Terrien sold his business and purchased ITAD Logic in Neenah in 2020.

Founded in 2011, ITAD was a turnkey business opportunity that appealed to Terrien because of his experience with tech and an interest in running an environmentally responsible business.

ITAD Logic provides secure electronics recycling for business clients that include Oshkosh Corporation, Schreiber Foods, the Green Bay Packers, health care systems and other Northeast Wisconsin clients.

“I didn’t even know this industry existed before I learned this business was for sale,” Terrien says.

He learned quickly and has benefited from retaining the experienced staff led by Operations Manager Clay Nitschke.

Terrien says ITAD keeps it as simple as possible for clients. It offers secure pickup with a company truck, typically within two or three days. Companies pay for data destruction if needed and receive reports on the process and results.

Equipment that can be resold offers opportunities for profit sharing. Terrien says ITAD will sell on eBay or to bulk buyers, allowing customers to potentially turn an expense into a revenue stream.

In some cases, ITAD has donated monitors or keyboards to schools and nonprofits. Equipment that cannot be resold or reused is shredded and sold to companies that salvage the raw materials, including metals and plastic.

ITAD Logic has been part of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Green Tier program for more than 10 years. The company also is R2 certified, a rigorous process that includes four audits a year using outside auditors, meeting standards set by Sustainable Electronics Recycling International.

Terrien’s son has worked at the business, and his daughter is currently working there through a youth apprenticeship program.

“I really enjoy this business a lot,” he says. “It just integrates into my life so well.”
