A family-owned janitorial services company based in Green Bay has been purchased by a St. Louis firm.
Thario Building Services, owned by Rodger and Diane Thario, was acquired by 4M Building Solutions. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
Thario employs 290 people who clean 8 million square feet daily. The company said it is the largest medical cleaning provider in Northeast Wisconsin and cleans offices, manufacturing facilities, schools and post construction sites.
Tim M. Murch, 4M CEO and managing partner, said the acquisition is part of a steady expansion into the upper Midwest that began in September 2022 with the acquisition of Eagle Enterprises in Milwaukee. That regional presence was boosted with the December 2023 purchase of Buttweiler Environmental in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and the July acquisition of Hi-Tec Building Services, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
“We were primarily operating in the metro areas of Milwaukee and Madison, covering the lower third of the state. Thario’s headquarters in Green Bay and its existing portfolio gives us an immediate presence in the middle of the state, north, and communities along the coast of Lake Michigan'” Murch said. “Geographically, it’s an excellent fit for us, creating opportunities to expand throughout the state. More important, it’s a cultural fit, We know Thario as a company and Roger and Diane as leaders. I, and my father before his passing, associated with the Tharios for decades through our involvement in BSCAI and other industry organizations.”

Thario will continue to operate in Wisconsin under the Thario brand from its office at 2936 Holmgren Way, Green Bay.
