Winner, 2022 Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin
The only thing cooler than a Pierce-made fire truck is the first zero-emissions electric fire truck in North America — oh, which is also made by Pierce. The Volterra electric pumper, which was released in June 2021 and named the “Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin” in 2022, is currently in service in Madison; Portland, Oregon; and Gilbert, Arizona, with five more locations to come. “Firefighters have to operate in a way they are familiar with, and city leaders have goals of bringing in green solutions to operate their fleets with reduced carbon emissions,” Pierce’s Eric Linsmeier told Insight in December 2022. “So we have to balance both. And we have found a way to do that.”
