Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers may be small, but they’re creating a big impact. Made by Kimberly-Clark Corp., the diapers were created in partnership with neonatal intensive care unit nurses and neonatal therapists and

are for the smallest of babies — those under 2 pounds. The product, which was a finalist for the 2020 Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin contest, provides needed skin protection to premature infants, says Kelly Nelson, communications consultant for Kimberly-Clark North America.

The Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers were developed in 2017 after hearing from parents

and NICU staff about the need for comfortable, skin- sensitive diapers for the smallest of babies, Nelson says. Although preemies weighing less than 2 pounds make up only 1 percent of all babies, they do require special attention.

Creating the diapers took just six months from idea to delivering a finished product. The diapers are made at a K-C plant in the Fox Cities.

“After hearing of the need for a diaper that meets the special requirements of these babies, our expert teams in skin science, research, product safety and manufacturing were inspired,” Eleonora Daireaux, K-C’s general manager of intimate care, said in a statement announcing the new product.

The diaper is designed around a baby’s comfort, featuring gentle, specially sized fasteners and a narrow, absorbent pad that is flexible, allowing the baby to rest comfortably in a fetal tuck, with his arms and legs close to his body. The diaper’s soft, smooth liner and gentle leg gathers offer leakage protection without irritating fragile, underdeveloped skin.
