Clothing retailer Express Inc. has field for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will close 100 stores including two in Wisconsin.
The filing is intended to result in the sale of a “substantial majority of the Company’s retail stores and operations” to WHP Global, Simon Property Group and Brookfield Properties.
Simon Property Group, Indianapolis, owns Bay Park Square in Ashwaubenon and Brookfield Properties, New York, owns the Fox River Mall in Appleton. WHP Global owns a number of retail brands, including Anne Klein, Lotto, Isaac Mizrahi and Joseph Abboud.
Express stores in Bay Park Square and the Fox River Mall are expected to remain open. Stores in Madison and Baraboo will be closed.
WHP already has a 7.2 percent stake in Express.
