The third quarter numbers are in, and the U.S. economy grew at a 4.3% annual rate, the most rapid expansion in two years, the Associated Press reports.
The U.S.’ total output of goods and services rose from its 3.8% growth rate in April-June.
Economists had predicted a growth of 3% in the third quarter.
The report says consumer spending makes up about 70% of U.S. economic activity, and that it rose to 3.5% last quarter, up from 2.5% in the second quarter.
Several economists expect the growth to be short-lived thanks to the federal government shutdown and high inflation.
