An unexpected win by Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley in the Wisconsin Democratic Party gubernatorial primary, sets up a general election matchup with Republican Tom Tiffany, who easily won the Republican primary.

Crowley, who suspended his campaign on July 8, reentered the race on July 18 when Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez dropped out of the Democratic primary. Crowley received the endorsement of Democratic Gov. Tony Evers and topped state Rep. Francesca Hong, who led in polls since May.

With 99% of precincts reporting, Crowley declared victory with 39.8% of the vote, compared to 39.3% for Hong, who conceded the race in a phone call to her opponent.

Tiffany, who was endorsed by Trump, will face Crowley in the election Nov. 3.
