The Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents will consider a proposal to increase tuition this week at its Milwaukee meeting.

The increase for resident undergraduates would be by 2% for the 2026–27 academic year.

According to a statement, the increase would be below the inflation rate but would help universities with rising operating costs.

“We recognize Wisconsin families are managing rising costs in every part of their lives, and that reality informed this proposal,” said Universities of Wisconsin Interim President Renée Wachter in a statement. “This is a measured increase that helps our universities continue providing strong student support and high-quality academic experiences while keeping a UW education among the most affordable in the Midwest.”

The proposal would also include an average 3.5% increase in segregated fees, which amounts to about $56 each year.

If approved, students who attend UW-Madison would need to spend about $12,416 on undergraduate tuition and segregated fees
