Jay Rothman has been president of the University of Wisconsin system since 2022, and according to an Associated Press report, he has been told to resign or retire by the Board of Regents.

Rothman said in a letter to the head of the Board of Regents on March 26 that he was not given a reason for the move.

The board said it “was prepared to terminate my employment despite all that has been accomplished.”

Rothman said he will not resign. However, he also did say that he was told he would be fired over the weekend if he did not abdicate his position.
