Valley Transit has secured $25 million in federal funding to reconstruct the Appleton Transit Center in a project projected to cost $26.8 million.

The funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity program. In addition, the city of Appleton will commit $1.8 million in COVID-19 pandemic relief funds.

The new facility will include 14 bus bays, ground-floor indoor and covered outdoor waiting areas, public restrooms, secure bike storage, vending machines, a ticketing office, an Appleton Police Department substation, and affordable housing units on upper floors. No timeline for construction has been announced.

“Valley Transit is grateful for the opportunity this grant provides,” said Ron McDonald, general manager of Valley Transit, in a news release.
