At Waupaca Foundry, impact starts at the core of its operations — reducing waste, conserving resources and building a better future for the people and places it serves.
Each day, the Foundry melts more than 9,500 tons of recycled iron into parts used by industries worldwide. But what sets Waupaca apart isn’t just its volume, scale or even quality — it’s the long-term thinking behind every pour, which includes a focus on sustainability and community.
Sustainability has been part of Waupaca’s business model for decades. Foundry sand is reused up to 20 times and then repurposed for beneficial uses such as road construction and park development. Closed-loop water systems have reduced usage by more than 90%, helping protect local resources.
Plant energy teams regularly audit systems to identify new ways to reduce consumption, optimize performance and minimize emissions.
“Sustainability is part of how we operate,” said Curtis Veit, Senior Environmental Engineer. “It’s not just about compliance – it’s about being efficient and intentional with our resources.”
Waupaca’s approach to sustainability is practical, measurable and employee driven. Plant teams lead the charge in identifying improvements — from small daily habits to major equipment retrofits. Ownership is key to making sustainability more than a program; it’s a mindset embedded in every job.
The same level of care and commitment is evident in how Waupaca Foundry engages with its communities.

In 2024, the company donated more than $600,000 to local initiatives, including education, emergency services, health care and skilled trades programs — with plans to expand that support in 2025. Philanthropy is managed at the local level, with employee-led committees determining where the funds are allocated. This approach ensures our contributions address the real needs and strengthen the connection between the workplace and the community.
“We want employees to see the impact of our giving firsthand,” said Rob Johnson, chief financial officer. “When they see us reinvesting in the places where they live, work and raise families, it reinforces how much they matter.”
That culture of care extends to the many employees who serve as volunteer firefighters and first responders. Waupaca Foundry allows these individuals to leave work for emergency calls — and even compensates them for their volunteerism.
At every level, from leadership to employees on the production floor, Waupaca Foundry operates with a clear sense of responsibility — environmentally, economically and socially.
