We Energies filed a rate request with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin seeking a 4.7 percent increase in 2027 and a 4.5 percent increase in 2028.

According to a press release, an average residential electric bill is projected to increase about $13 per month in 2027 and $8 to $9 per month in 2028. We Energies residential natural gas customers would see a $1 to $8 increase in their monthly bills in 2027 as part of the filed plan.

The filing includes a customer Protection Plan so data center costs will not be passed on to other customers. Data centers will pay nearly $1.9 billion in 2027 and 2028 toward the infrastructure, equipment and energy needed to serve them.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin Public Service filed a rate request that would increase residential customer electric bills by about $11 per month in 2027 and about $5 per month in 2028. Residential natural gas customers would see an about $7 increase in their monthly bills in 2027, with no base rate increase anticipated in 2028.

Both utilities said in filings that they would:

  • Recover costs for new solar, wind, battery storage and natural gas projects already approved by regulators and expected to begin serving customers in 2027 and 2028.
  • Fund continued work to trim trees, bury power lines and replace aging equipment.
  • Install underground cable in and add new equipment to improve reliability.

The filings are the first step in a transparent, months-long process that includes public filings, customer group and expert regulatory staff review, and public hearings. All documents and filings that are part of this rate review are available at psc.wi.gov.

The commission is expected to make a final decision later this year. New rates are expected to take effect in January 2027.
